Renter Question

PlatePass® Response

1.      What does it cost?

·         Customers will be charged the posted toll rate, plus $2.50 per rental day after the use of PlatePass® during the rental period.  If the renter uses the express lanes at least once during their rental, the renter will be charged $2.50 for everyday of their rental with a maximum of $10.00 per week.  Retroactive fees will only be charged for weeks that at least one toll occurred. The week starts on the first day of the rental.  The customer will be charged approximately 2 weeks after the rental car is returned.

2.      How do I get a receipt?  How do I view my charges and toll activity online?

·         You can access a receipt online and view your toll activity at www.PlatePass.com.  You will need your rental agreement number along with the ending date of your rental in order to access your receipt. Additionally, it can be mailed approximately 2 weeks after the rental car is returned by calling 877-411-4300.

3.      How do I pay for this?

·         Your credit card on file with the rental agreement will be charged.  Toll charges will be applied after the rental car is returned.  The charge will appear as AVIS RENT A CAR TOLLS or BUDGET RENT A CAR TOLLS on your credit card statement.

4.      How is the daily use fee charged and calculated?

·         For each rental day (24 hour period) that a designated toll lane is used. The $2.50 service fee is applied to each contracted rental day, up to $10.00 per rental week, once you use eToll/PlatePass®.  It does not matter which day you use eToll/PlatePass® or how many times tolls are incurred.

5.      Why should I use eToll /PlatePass®?

·         Speed and convenience.  With eToll/PlatePass®, you don’t need to stop or wait in long lines to pay cash so you can get where you are going faster.  There is no risk to use eToll/PlatePass® as you are only charged if you go through a designated toll lane.

6.      How do I sign up for eToll/PlatePass®?

·         Every rental car is eToll/PlatePass® ready.  No pre-enrollment or sign up is required.  No extra paperwork is required and you do not have to stop at the Avis, Budget, or Hertz counter.

7.      Where else can I use this program?

·         The eToll program is offered throughout the Northeast United States, Puerto Rico, Florida, and Houston.   The PlatePass® powered program includes SunPass Only or E-PASS designated toll lanes in Florida, designated EZ TAG lanes in Houston, and EXpressToll lanes in Colorado. This means that a customer renting in any state throughout the U.S., can use eToll powered by PlatePass® while traveling on toll roads in Colorado, Florida, and Houston.  Coming soon to other major toll markets.

8.      What Telephone # can I call if I have a question about billing or PlatePass®?

·         PlatePass® Customer Service 877-411-4300.  PlatePass® customers can also send an email to help@PlatePass.com.  For general PlatePass® questions, you can send an email to information@PlatePass.com.

9.      What happens if I rent the car for a long time?

·         That is ok; however, you may end up having your charges broken up into more than one invoice.

10.  Why am I being charged a fee?

·         The $2.50 fee pays for the convenience of the program.

11.  What if I am paying cash and I don’t have a credit card on file?

·         You can still use PlatePass®.  A paper invoice will be sent to you approximately 2 weeks after the completion of your rental.
